From Launch to Portugal β Milestones of a Year of Engineering Work with the BME Suborbitals Rocket Team
When the Eclipse powered by evosoft successfully lifted off on July 17, many people saw an impressive rocket launch. But we know that behind those few minutes of flight there was a whole year of planning, testing, redesigning, discussions, and persistent work.
For the third year in a row, evosoft has been supporting the BME Suborbitals team as its main sponsor. But this partnership is much more than sponsorship. Through our collaboration, our colleagues contribute with professional mentoring, knowledge sharing, and various programs that help students get closer to real engineering challenges.
Milestones of a Busy Year
π 5th Anniversary Celebration at evosoft
This year, the BME Suborbitals team celebrated its fifth anniversary. We were happy to host the anniversary event, where participants looked back on the achievements of recent years and the goals ahead.
The team has come a long way from the first concepts to preparing for one of Europe's most prestigious university rocket competitions with systems they developed themselves. And this is only the beginning! π
π TinkerLab and Parts Turning Ideas into Reality
In the next phase of development, plans started to take physical shape. With the support of evosoft's TinkerLab innovation laboratory, several custom 3D printed parts were produced and became part of the Eclipse development project.
π Soft Skill Development at evosoft
Alongside technical work, personal development was also an important part of the year. A successful rocket project requires not only technical knowledge but also effective teamwork, communication, and presentation skills. During the year, soft skill training sessions organized at evosoft helped strengthen these competencies.
π Spring β Design Freeze
One of the most important milestones in the development of the competition rocket was the Design Freeze event, where the team finalized the main technical solutions of the rocket. Decisions made on the drawing board became reality here.
π Countless Discussions, Tests, and Fine Tuning
Rocket development is rarely a linear process. Throughout the year, countless design decisions, technical reviews, adjustments, and tests came before the moment when Eclipse was finally ready to fly.
π July β Successful Test Launch
π What Makes a Rocket Test Truly Memorable?
Of course, a successful launch plays a big part. But it is also about seeing up close how much work, excitement, and emotion stand behind it. For our colleagues who attended the event, the atmosphere and the team's attitude were just as memorable as the successful launch itself.
The team achieved excellent results during the test flight. The air brake system worked successfully, the self developed parachute system using reefing technology deployed as planned, valuable flight data was collected by the onboard systems, and the newly developed propellant proved itself under real flight conditions for the first time.
Alongside professional supporters, including colleagues from evosoft, well known representatives of the Hungarian space research and space industry community were also present on the test day, including Tibor Kapu and Gyula CserΓ©nyi.
π Next Stop: EuRoC
The successful test launch was not the final goal but another important milestone. Now the next step is Portugal, where the team will represent Hungary at the European Rocketry Challenge.
The technologies of the future are built by today's young engineers, which is why we are proud to be part of the successes of BME Suborbitals, shaped by talent, perseverance, and engineering curiosity.
