Beyond Software: evosoft Supports a Special BME Project

What does evosoft have to do with a campus park? More than you might think 🌱 πŸŽ“

At evosoft, we develop software and engineering solutions every day, but we also believe that the engineering community of the future cannot be built with code alone. This is why we decided to support a BME initiative that may seem unusual at first, but is in fact strongly connected to engineering: evosoft is supporting the creation of the PΓ©csi Eszter Park. πŸ—οΈ

So, what makes a park an engineering project? Among other things, students, lecturers, engineers and designers are working on it together, while the paving stones are made using BME’s own special concrete mix and recycled materials. Not only architecture and civil engineering students are involved in the construction, but volunteers and lecturers from other faculties have also joined the work.

The design also responds to the challenges of the future. Special drought-resistant plants will be planted in the park, and the vegetation is being selected to adapt to the warmer and drier weather conditions expected in the future.

More than a memorial: a living community space

The park named after PΓ©csi Eszter will not be another memorial that people simply look at from a distance. The aim is to create a community space on the BME campus that students can really use: a place where they can study, relax, meet others and take part in community activities, while also offering space for remembrance.

Two key elements of the concept are a circular walkway and a partly sunken, bowl-shaped community space. This was a conscious choice. The designers did not simply want to place another memorial in the park. They wanted to create a place that today’s students can truly use and make their own.

A red maple tree has also been planted in the heart of the park in honour of PΓ©csi Eszter. The choice has a special meaning: the tree originates from North America, referring to the later part of PΓ©csi Eszter’s career, when she lived and worked in the United States. As the creators of the project explained, the tree symbolically β€œbrings her home”. 🍁

From code to campus: a new side of our partnership

The partnership between BME and evosoft goes far beyond individual projects. Through scholarship programmes, educational cooperation, professional presentations, competitions and support for student projects, we connect academic knowledge with real industry experience. Our cooperation also includes supporting the BME Suborbitals student rocket development team. πŸš€

And this partnership has very real results within evosoft as well. Some of our colleagues first joined us as BME scholarship students, completed their independent laboratory work, thesis and internship at evosoft, and later continued their careers with us as software developers.

The PΓ©csi Eszter Park now shows another side of this partnership. The next generation of engineers needs not only up-to-date knowledge and real professional challenges, but also an environment where new connections, ideas and cooperation can grow.

Who was PΓ©csi Eszter?

PΓ©csi Eszter was the first woman in Hungary to earn an engineering degree. She received her structural engineering degree from BME on 8 March 1920. She worked on the structural design of major buildings such as the AlfrΓ©d HajΓ³s National Swimming Stadium on Margaret Island and the KΓΊtvΓΆlgyi Road Hospital, and later continued her engineering career in the United States.

Her legacy is still part of BME today. The PΓ©csi Eszter Teacher Award recognises ten outstanding secondary school teachers in science and technical education every year.

This September, another symbolic chapter was added to her story. Fischer Zsuzsa, PΓ©csi Eszter’s granddaughter, joined the memorial tree planting and the opening of the circular walkway, together with BME’s rector and Varga TamΓ‘s, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture. At the end of the event, the participants signed the plans of the PΓ©csi Eszter Park as a keepsake.

We encourage everyone to support similar initiatives in any way they can. The PΓ©csi Eszter Park shows how much can be achieved by working together. We believe that initiatives like this can bring us closer to a more sustainable future, not only for the next generation of engineers, but for all of us.

The PΓ©csi Eszter Park brings together engineering, sustainability, community and the legacy of an inspiring engineering career. We are proud that evosoft can be part of this story.
