We designed a robot controller in collaboration with BME

This year, we launched a special project in partnership with the Product and Industrial Design Engineering program at BME. We invited students to design the ergonomics, UX, and structure of the remote controller for our Nelson industrial measuring robot.

🎯 The goal?
To create a controller that’s not only functional, but also ergonomic, intuitive, and ready for production. The students didn’t just design—they built prototypes and presented their work to a jury made up of instructors and evosoft engineers.

🎥 In our video, you’ll meet Nelson and explore:

  • 💡 What unique robotic developments are happening at evosoft?

  • 💡 What does a product design engineer actually do in practice?

  • 💡 How do design, manufacturability, and usability come together?

  • 💡 Why is a well-designed UI so crucial?

After the project wrapped up, we had the chance to take a closer look at the students’ work—and meet them in person—at a product showcase held at the evosoft headquarters. During the event, we asked the participating students about their experience working together, as well as the professional and creative challenges they faced throughout the design and implementation phases.

In the video, Ábel Dian, a design engineer from evosoft’s innovation team, takes us behind the scenes of the project. He not only interviews the students about their experiences but also speaks with evosoft colleagues who were actively involved in developing the Nelson industrial measuring robot.

Through these conversations, you’ll learn how theory meets practice, what had to be considered in terms of user experience, ergonomics, and manufacturability—and how a university project can turn into real industrial experience.

The students didn’t just design – they also built prototypes and presented their work to a jury made up of instructors and evosoft engineers. Among the jury members were our colleagues from innovation, product design engineers and UX experts – and last but not least, our CEO, István Petényi, who also shares a few words in the video.
